Exotrail is a French start-up based in Ecole polytechnique in France. We are part of the New Space global movement that is disrupting the space industry. In the past 10 years, the cost of access to space has been divided by 1000. Private companies are investing billions of dollars to develop constellations of small satellites to deliver Internet everywhere, IoT communication or very high revisit rate Earth observation services.

Our vision at Exotrail is to help building an agile space. We are developing propulsion and operation technologies for these small satellites. Our thruster is the smallest Hall Effect Thruster in the world. Thanks to our electric propulsion system and our unique operation software, small satellites can change their orbit after launch. With this new agility, they increase their performance while lowering their costs.

We believe that this is only the beginning and that small satellites equipped with propulsion will be able to deliver new space services to entirely disrupt the space industry by being able to service, repair, assemble and manufacture spacecrafts directly in orbit. Description du poste

We are looking for an Electronics Engineer. His or her main mission will be to pursue the design and prototyping of the electronics of our thruster. The main electronical functions of our system are the following:

  • Communication with the satellite and its subsystems (I2C, serial, SPI,…)
  • Low voltage conversion and alimentation
  • High voltage control and alimentation
  • Flow regulator control
  • Status assessment

In parallel, the engineer will be part of the definition and the preparation of test campaigns done on the thruster, both at the sub-system and integrated system level

He will directly report to the system engineer and the CTO.


Technical profile in electronics, with a significant and varied experience ideally from the space sector

Very good soft and presentation skills (technical documentation, assumptions, oral presentation). You must be able to work with a great autonomy

You must have validated the following requirements in previous experiences: various electronics activities (analogic, numeric, communication, low voltage and high voltage alimentation), handling of specialised subcontractors, technical and financial reporting, Assembly, Integration & Tests (AIT) on complex and miniaturised systems

Strong rigor in dealing with technical subjects and a high autonomy to work on your own in cooperation with a project leader and a system engineer

English proficiency and a basic French level

Strong reporting and organizational capabilities, and a desire to work with a very dynamic and ambitious team

You should be passionate about space and entrepreneurship and ready to work in a very demanding environment – with the immense reward of being directly part of a very ambitious project!
